    In 1949 Normann and Magda Kristensen started to produce traditionally Norwegian seafood in the basement of their house at the island of Herdla. The company Herdla Fiskemat was founded.

    The first factory was built in 1960 and later had to be extended twice.

    In 1980 the company started fish farming and production of smoked salmon at Herdla.

    In 1987 Herdla Fiskemat joined Seaeagle Group AS and built the largest smoked salmon factory in Norway at the time.

    As the first salmon company, Herdla Fiskemat achieved the prestigious Quality Prize by the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries in 1993. The company’s owners Anny and Kjell Kristensen with the prize.

    The salmon factory was extended in 2000, and new production lines were installed, again placing the company on top among producers of smoked salmon in Norway.

    In November 2013 Sea Eagle Group AS was merged with Lerøy Seafood Group ASA, Norways leading processor and exporter of seafood products.

    Sea Eagle is a brand of smoked salmon offered by Lerøy Seafood Group. Lerøy can trace its origin back to 1899 when fisherman Ole Mikkel Lerøen started selling seafood at the local fishmarket in Bergen, Norway. Today Lerøy export 4 million meals of seafood to 70 markets each day.
